Finding Adept Documentation

 Contents

Adept documentation is available from the following sources:

  • The Adept Document Library on the Adept website contains the most current documentation.

  • All Adept DeskTop, Adept Windows, AIM and V+ software CD-ROMs contain a copy of the most recent documentation available in the Adept Document Library. Note that the Adept software CD may also include preliminary documentation for products that have not been officially released.

  • Customers can also order a copy of the Adept Document Library on CD-ROM by contacting their Adept Sales person.

  • If a customer requires a printed version of HTML-formatted documentation, use the HTML Print Utility feature to generate a .pdf version of the documentation.

Publication Date For HTML documentation

For documentation formatted in HTML, each page contains a footer that includes the date the information was last modified. The .pdf files include the part number, revision, and publication date, usually on page 3 of the document.

Printing Online Documentation (HTML format)

  Contents

You can generate a portable/printable pdf file from a collection of HTML documents using the HTML Print Utility. This utility provides a means for capturing the content (text and graphics) of a specified documentation set (HTML format) so you can view, print, or distribute the information outside of the Adept Document Library system.  This utility is not intended to create publication-quality manuals from HTML files. After generation, the .pdf file can be viewed and printed using Adobe Acrobat Reader.

The HTML Print Utility is available for the AIM and V+ documentation collections.

To try out the Print Utility:

  1. Open the AIM Baseline User Guide.

  2. In the Contents panel, select the Print Documentation item

  3. Follow the instructions provided to create a .pdf file for the AIM Baseline User Guide.

For additional information on using the Print Utility, see What are the Features and Limitations of the HTML Print Utility?

Please send any questions, comments or suggestions on the Print Utility to techpubs@adept.com.

The Adept software documentation provides a Table of Contents pane which provides index and search capabilities as described in the following table.

Feature Description

Table of Contents

Provides access to the new Print facility, the Adept Documentation Library and all topics included within the documentation set currently displayed. The Table of Contents pane can be displayed by clicking the Show TOC icon, or hidden by clicking the Hide TOC icon.

Index

Provides a list of keywords. Click a keyword to view its corresponding topic. If several topics reference the same keyword, select the topic to view from a popup menu.

Search

Enter words or phrases to scan topic content and find all topics that match the search criteria.

In contrast to the Adept Document Library search feature which returns search results from all of the documentation in the Adept Document Library, the Search tab in the contents pane allows you to search within the documentation that you are currently viewing.

Problems viewing PDF files in the Adept Document Library

We have received several reports of users having problems with the browser locking up when they attempt to navigate in or print documentation in .pdf format. This problem is related to the configuration of the Adobe Reader software. Adobe has provided several solutions, based on particular operating systems. These are available from the Adobe Knowledgebase.
