Adept SmartMotion Developer's Guide

Save Specifications to Disk File

The Save specifications to disk file menu option creates a file containing all specification data stored in memory for the selected mechanism (robot, encoder, SmartAmp, etcetera). Use this option to archive, backup and transfer specification data for the currently selected robot or device.  The SPEC data file can be used later to load the configuration data to another V+ system disk or to restore the configuration in the event of a system problem (see Load Robot Specifications from disk file for details). The specifications for each mechanism must be stored in a separate file.

NOTE: The Save specifications to disk file does not update the SPEC data stored on the V+ system disk. To update the system disk, use the menu option Save all changes to system disk.

SPEC data can be stored in binary or ASCII file format:

On a password-protected robot, note that the ASCII file includes only the parameters that the user has access to. If you enter the password, the ASCII file will contain all parameters. A binary file always contains all the parameters that SPEC can access.

To use the Save specification to disk file option:

  1. Select the Save specifications to disk file option from the menu and then press Enter.

  2. The following screen is displayed.

  1. Press ENTER.

  2. Enter the letter of the type of SPEC data that you want to store:

  1. Review the instructions on the screen. Then, enter the path and file name for the SPEC data file.

Use meaningful file names such as: ROBOT1.SPC, ROBOT2.SPC, or ENCODER.SPC

Examples

disk>D:\UTIL\Robot1.spc (save to the controller hard drive

NFS>XC:\Robot1.spc        (save to an NFS mounted drive)

NOTE:  To save the file to a PC, make sure that NFS file sharing has been enabled. For details, see Using NFS Server with Windows. The following figure shows the file specification to store a file on an NFS mounted drive on a PC that is on the AdeptWindows network.

  1. To enter a description that will display in the header of the ASCII-formatted disk file, type Y at the prompt. Otherwise, press N to cancel and save the file without a description.

If you enter a description, type a  "." at a blank prompt to end the description text as illustrated in the following figure.
