Load Robot Specifications from a Disk File

This function reads a specification data file that contains the specification information for a single robot and WRITES OVER THE DATA IN MEMORY FOR THE CURRENTLY SELECTED ROBOT. After loading the file, be sure to save the specification data to your V+ system disk.

Before you begin

  1. Configure the selected mechanism using the Configure robot and motor options menu item.

  2. Record the path and file name for the SPEC data file you want to load. If it is on a PC, make sure that NFS file sharing has been enabled. For details, see Using NFS Server with Windows.

To load a specification file:

  1. To update the specification data for a mechanism, select the mechanism if is not already selected. (To change the selection, use the Change robot number or Change encoder number options on the SPEC main menu.)

  2. From the SPEC main menu, select Load specifications from disk file. The following screen is displayed:

  1. Review the instructions on the screen. Then, enter the path and file name of the file to be loaded.

Examples

disk>D:\UTIL\Robot1.spc (save to the controller hard drive

NFS>XC:\Robot1.spc        (save to an NFS mounted drive)

  1. Press Enter.

The system reads the specified disk file's header information and verifies that the file contains the correct type of data and is for the proper type of robot. This header information is displayed on the terminal as illustrated in the following figure. You are then prompted to provide a final verification to proceed.

The disk reading operation takes only a few seconds to complete after which a message is displayed.

If an error occurs during the specification loading process, a message is displayed indicating a "data section" number and the error that occurred. The data section number is the number associated with a particular data item. If the file you are loading was stored in ASCII format, you can review the data item causing the error in the specification file.

  1. If you are satisfied that the data is correct, select the menu option Save ALL specifications to system disk to update your V+ system configuration with the data you loaded.
