SPEC Program Main Menu
The SPEC program starts by displaying a menu of main selections to the user. SPEC Program Main Menu shows a typical start-up display for a system that has a single Linear-Module robot. For details on the using the SPEC menu and its options, see Using the SPEC program.
Variations to Main Menu
The display you see may vary somewhat depending on your system configuration. The following selections may appear on the SPEC main menu, depending on your system configuration. These are described below:
Enter password to increase access level
SPEC Program Main MenuMenu Options
Enter password to increase access
This menu option displays if the SPEC data for the selected device has been password-protected.
If you use SPEC to edit a "protected" robot (see below), the program will be in restricted-access mode. In this mode, you can only change a few parameters (hand signals, joint limits, nulling tolerance). The restricted-access mode of SPEC is described separately, in the Instructions for Adept Utility Programs.
If you have both protected and unprotected robots connected to your system, the SPEC access-level will depend on which robot you have selected. (See Change Robot Number).
Note: For details on adding password protection, see Password Protecting SPEC Data
Protected Adept Robots
All Adept robots are protected. When SPEC is used to edit an Adept robot, it is always in restricted-access mode. The options "Change robot options and motor configuration" and "Enter password to increase access level" are not displayed when editing an Adept robot. If robot 1 is a protected Adept robot and you want to edit robot 2, select robot 2. If robot 2 is unprotected, you will then have full access to robot 2.
SmartServo device quick setup
This menu item allows you to access the SmartServo device quick setup utility. See the DC_Setup Utility Program documentation for more details.
Change Robot Number
This menu option displays if your system is configured for multiple robots. Choose this option to edit the specifications for a different robot or device. The name of the currently selected device displays in the menu header above the MENU hotkeys.
By default, the SPEC program automatically selects Robot 1 when the program loads. If you select a device such as an encoder, the menu options that appear on the menu will be updated to reflect the SPEC options for that device.
Change Robot Options and Motor Configuration
Allows you to change the configuration of the motor or joint. If an encoder device is selected, this menu option is replaced by the Change Encoder Configuration option. For details, see Robot Options and Motor Configuration.
Perform Hardware Diagnostics
The Perform hardware diagnostics option provides information on each node in the system for the selected robot and allows you to test hardware performance. For details, see Perform Hardware Diagnostics.
Edit Robot Specifications
This menu item allows you to edit selected robot specifications. For details, see the Robot Specifications Menu.
When you select the Edit robot specifications selection from the SPEC main menu, you get the submenu shown in Robot Specification Submenu.
Load Robot Specifications from a Disk File
Loads robot configuration data from a disk file created using the menu option Save robot specifications to a disk file. For details, see Load Robot Specifications from Disk File.
Save Robot Specification to a Disk File
Stores the new data in a disk data file.
Save ALL Specifications to Disk File
Causes all the current configuration data to be written to the V+ system disk. For details, see Save all changes to system disk.
Switch to External Encoder Specifications
This menu option displays if your system is configured to have External Encoders. Because they have no drive channels, external encoders have fewer required specifications than a robot, but otherwise the SPEC program treats them identically to a robot. The wording of menu items differs slightly for external encoders. For example, Change robot options and motor configuration becomes Change encoder configuration and Edit robot specifications becomes Edit encoder specifications.
SmartServo Network Information
Selecting this option displays the current SmartServo Network configuration. The information displayed can also be viewed using the V+ monitor command SRV.NET. For details, see Verify Adept SmartMotion Hardware Installation
